Mighty work by Darren …
“Animation is like beer…or sunshine… With enough of it, everything starts to look good. And while the beer analogy can only be taken so far, animation sure does add charm, wit and sophistication to any project…”
-Darren
Before creating the thriving studio that is Mighty Nice, Darren was living the Aussie-expat-in-London life. There, he was the Head of 3D for our partners at Nexus Studios, before realising he Still Called Australia Home. The nicest of Mighty Nice-rs, we’re lucky to have Darren at the helm. From 2D, 3D and VFX, to stop-motion and animation, the guy has done it all. And he’s got the BAFTA to show for it.
TOP ACHIEVEMENTS:
BAFTA Award winner
Webby Award for commercial short, “The Square Peg”
Children’s TV show creator – (Bottersnikes & Gumbles and Kazoops)
SUPER SKILL:
Yoyo champion 1986, Weston Creek ACT. The finale came down to an “Around the World” showdown with Darren completing 23 consecutive rounds on his Coca-Cola collectible spinner.
… and some Nice things.
BOTTERSNIKES AND GUMBLES
My favourite childhood Australian “bush fantasy”. These creatures stuck in my imagination until I connected with the authors and created this proof of concept. Now a Netflix series. Amazing!
HONDA GRRR…
‘Ad of the decade’. Way back now, Darren worked with Smith and Foulkes and W+K to help create this part of advertising history.
