We were thrilled for Simon Robson and his Earth Definition spot, on reaching the Clio Shortlist for 2020. Commissioned by Hjaltelin, Stahl & Co and Accenture Interactive for EarthDay.org, Mighty Nice helped Simon realise the animated spot in 2021.
Together with the world’s largest (and original) environmental movement, Earth Day – we introduce Earth Definition: an eco-label for video streaming platforms that allows people to make a better choice for the environment. Simply by repositioning Standard Definition (480p) to Earth Definition (ED). The purpose is to raise awareness of the fact that video streaming has an impact on the environment, and the simple solution is lowering the video quality from HD to ED. Hopefully for the video streaming giants like Netflix, Facebook and Youtube to either auto-stream video/film in ED on mobile devices, or as a minimum, implement the green ED logo next to the 480p quality setting, to help the users make a more environmentally friendly choice when streaming on a platform.
Streaming high definition videos on your phone generates approximately four times more emissions into the atmosphere than necessary. The down-to-earth solution? You know it as standard definition. We call it Earth Definition. A greener, much needed alternative to HD that lets you stream responsibly.
