2D + Timelapses
For this project for Selfwealth created alongside the incredible teams at Big Space Agency and Sonar Music, we got to do one of Mighty Nice’s favourite things: mix media in interesting new ways. Frame by frame 2D animation with intricate shading and gradients embed our characters into live action footage that has been shot using a timelapse technique. Both 2D and timelapse take a loooonng time but came out looking so good!

All of it would be animated to a catchy song similar in vibe to “Friday on my Mind” but with lyrics that are about growing. Optimistic, fun, and positive!

Adding timelapse photography around Australia to the already time intensive process that is frame-by-frame animation made this both a challenging project, but also one we feel has visual stand-out. The compositing and crafting by our team seated the 2D animation into the footage nicely, without removing the illustrative feel.
