“My take on the theme ‘What is real?’ was an observation on relationships and the way we project parts of ourselves onto our loved ones – seeing what we want to see.”

the big kids
This project brought mass exposure as we contributed to the curated short film that opened entire TEDxSydney gathering. Kind of a big deal. The theme of ‘REAL’ was broad and open for interpretation, which always makes for some creative fun.
We sent Michael Shiao in to bat for Mighty Nice, rounding out an all-star line-up of directors. The result was a kaleidoscopic dream sequence, with voiceover audio from 60s philosopher Alan Watts adding an extra bit of trip.
A dreamy sequence
Our film was not quite 2D, not quite 3D (we call it 2.5D). It added a floating dimension to the dream sequence – allowing the audience to take a breath in the midst of some very busy scenes.
We used experimental NPR (non-photorealistic) shading techniques to blur the lines of 2D and 3D. Pretty appropriate given the theme of interpreting reality!
