The brief was to create some spots advertising AHM’s latest offering, in their classic style, but adding in a new ‘glitch’ element.

As AHM are known for their black and white cartoon line style, the introduction of full colour illustrations stands out as something visually different and more complex than usual, playing into the metaphor of AHM keeping it simple.

The two spots adhere to the simplicity of the AHM brand, and incorporate our frazzled character illustrations. The pieces allow the frames to shine, with just the right amount of animation so it’s readable in the pacey edits.

We used the animation and timing of the edit to help keep viewer interest, without over doing the motion. Everything comes back to keeping things simple.

Our biggest challenge was to satisfy the client request of a color glitch, but also keeping things compliant for people living with epilepsy. There was a lot of testing in software that detects luminance and color changes to make sure things were happening at an acceptable speed, and close communication with the Dylan Alcott Foundation to make this effect work for everyone.

It was great to see all the illustrated interpretations of the characters. Each illustrator ran with their own style to come up with something unique. And working with our own digital clay to create extra versions is always fun. Something of a Mighty Nice specialty that we love to do! We also love a dance loop!
