"Mighty Nice made our branding come to life, literally. The collaboration and understanding of what we needed made the journey mighty simple, the weekly check in’s became the best part of our week and we couldn’t be happier with the result. Great experience with this incredibly talented team, with a special shout out to Electric Sheep Music who brought the film's spirit to life."

Let's Roam!
Meet Roamy, our chameleon-like explorer on an exciting adventure!
We helped Australian telco Telstra launch their in-house creative agency, Roam, with a multi-media animated film celebrating the creative process. Roamy, an 'R' shaped character based on the Roam logo, is the living embodiment of an 'idea.' Born in the shower, he sets off on a journey through diverse landscapes, adapting and evolving in every new environment he encounters along the way.
We took this great concept to the drawing board and crafted a 40 second spot that follows this character from humble beginnings to epic surroundings. The film is full of subtle Telstra easter eggs - on the coins, in the phone box and graffiti on the walls. With the art style, rendering and texturing changing in every scene, it took the full bag of tricks to bring this spot to life.

All In Approach

This was a truly unique project that brought everyone in the studio together. 2D, 3D, design and even Jason (our in-house IT specialist), got to flex their chops, which is what gives it such an authentically multi-media look.
As an ever-changing journey with a central character, this project was a great opportunity for experimentation with new tools and techniques. There were a number of single shot environments and characters we needed to create quickly for the montage section of the spot. The team used image cards and projection mapping to create depth without requiring full 3D builds. Based on our initial sketches, AI was then used to generate background images in some of the more photo-real scenes.
The character was animated traditionally, but we kept Roamy’s movement on a horizontal path up until the final scene. One of the biggest challenges turned out to be one of the most foundational animation challenges - the character walk cycle! Finding the right way for the 'R' shaped Roamy to walk required a lot of R&D to ensure the character had a full range of motion, while preserving the logo's side-on legibility.
